When should you augment your staff with temporary labor or contract staffing? When does that decision make sense for your business and what is the process behind that?

There are a couple of great opportunities to use contract labor. For example, in the SAP market, it is very common to hire temporary labor either on a project-based need or if there is a skillset that is either brand new to the market or extremely hard to find.

A few examples of that in the SAP world would be Hybris, S/4HANA, enterprise warehouse management, transportation management, environmental health and safety management, and many more. Basically, if you need to hire someone qualified to take on a certain area but there aren’t many candidates out there, then you may want to leverage a consultant or contractor.

You can hire someone temporarily and have them train your staff.

Why? Let’s say you hire a consultant to handle one area of your business for 12 months. Over the course of that time, the consultant can train and mentor someone in your full-time staff. That way, you have an employee who has those skills once the contract is up.

These are all great opportunities to use a firm like ASAP Talent Services to control the quality of the resources you’re going to be able to select. You will also be able to interview multiple candidates before making a decision. We can often help get people in at lower bill rates than other SAP resources.

Finally, you may want to consider hiring temporary labor in order to try it before you buy it. Hiring someone on a contract-to-hire basis can be a great option. You will get to know the candidate and really validate that their experience is a great fit for the position.
